Monday 4th May

starter: practise words in word book.

Main activity: Read the through the instructions on how to build a sandcastle. (Click here for instructions)

Then see if you can use the instructions to tell someone how to build a sandcastle. You can
get them to pretend to build one.

Starter: Recognise numbers written down up to 20 then 30.

Main activity: Halving Problems- Ask your child how they would halve an apple for example and how they would halve a piece of paper. Then with four small objects (seeds, toys, pasta etc…) show them how they would halve these by sharing them into two groups - you could use two plates/bowls to put them in. Deliberately make a mistake (1 in one bowl and 3 in another) and ask them if it is it fair. Encourage them to show you how they think it should be done. When you have 2 objects in each bowl remind them about addition sums 2 + 2 = 4.

Now try with 6, 8, 10, 12 objects (make sure you only use even numbers of objects that can be halved without any objects left over).

Tuesday 5th May

Starter: Recap letter sounds in your child’s word book.

Main activity: Listen to &/ join in with Simply Phonics Phase 3 oo  (zoom)  digraph You Tube clip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVm1Fv9CuPk

Make a list of words with ‘oo’ sounds as in e.g. zoom. (We will be doing the other oo sound as in book tomorrow.)

Starter: Counting backwards from 10 – 0 then 20 – 0.

Main activity: Halving problem solving - Toys picnic - Set up a picnic for your two favourite toys. Each toy will need a plate. Use small things -dried beans, pasta, leaves, buttons etc… to represent the food. Count how many of your chosen object you have and give each toy half of them. How many were there to start with? How many has each toy got? So what is half of the total? Try with different amounts of small objects. Talk about what you could do if you can’t share the objects out equally.

Watch a You tube clip  ‘Alligators’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gC438crLVY Draw a picture of an alligator and label the parts of its body. See if you can label its teeth, legs and tail. Tell someone the about the differences between an alligator and a crocodile.

Wednesday 6th May

Starter: Think up sentences orally with words with the long oo sound in them like zoom/moon/balloon/soon: e.g. ‘I can zoom like a car.’ ‘We can zoom to the moon.’ Now have a go at writing oo words with sound buttons under them.

Main activity: Listen and join in with either of the short oo (book) sound videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDJQM9XxsCc long & short oo sounds  and/or  Mr Thorne Does Phonics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR47jG-imRo  See if you can find things around the house that have the short oo sound in them.

Starter: Recap 2D shapes - can you name them and say something about the properties of the shapes. How many corners (vertices) and sides do they have? Are the sides the same length? Are they curved or straight sides?

Main activity: Halving Problem Solving: Draw six circles and colour half of them in blue and the other half red. How many circles are blue? How many circles are red? Try writing down what you have done as a sum 6 = ? + ?  Now see if you can draw ten sweets and colour half in one colour and the other half in a different colour. What is half of ten?

Watch ‘Go Jetters’ Everglades National Park - Florida episode series 2 on BBC iPlayer https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0b52d0j/go-jetters-series-2-32-everglades-national-park-florida

If you want to you can also change Goldilocks to a different character. Now retell your version of the story.

Starter:  Guess the shape game - Move the spy hole across the picture and see if you can name the shape https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/shiftingShapes/index.html.

Using what you have found out about Florida (You can always check out the YouTube clips https://youtu.be/OZHen61iV_c and  https://youtu.be/2DgK7Sjpfks again.) make a poster all about the things you know about Florida. What is it known as? Where would you like to visit in Florida? What animals will you find there? What can you do in Florida? You could write a sentence about what you like best about Florida.
